ABOUT US
Big River Fish Corporation was founded in 1999 with nothing more than a small 30’ x 30’ building along the Mississippi River, a fishing boat, and a big dream. Coming from a long line of commercial fishermen Rick L. Smith, now President of Big River Fish, had decided to open his own fish market.
In 2003 Big River Fish purchased a poultry plant, modernized it with state-of-the-art equipment, and created a large fresh river fish processing plant. The new move put them in the heart of the fishing industry located between the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers giving the company access to an abundance of fresh water fish.
Big River Fish has now joined forces with 2 key players and has established yet another location in Griggsville, Illinois. The company has had a new 20,000 square foot processing facility built with a new line of automation equipment for the processing of fresh wild caught river fish.
Big River Fish now has over 100 licensed commercial fishermen harvesting the fish daily. The fish are caught and brought into the facility for weigh-in and processing all within the same day to provide the freshest quality on the market. Through new orders, recent letters of intent, and the marketing strategy of our new partners, Big River Fish is the largest producer of fresh wild caught Asian carp in the United States.
Big River Fish also offers smoked dried fish for African and other Ethnic groups. These endeavors have made Big River Fish the largest producer of smoked/dried fish in the United States.
We value each and every customer and are committed to production safety and quality products. The owners of Big River Fish, have a combined experience of over 30 years in the fresh fish industry, and are very aware of the states natural resources. They are members of the ICFA (Illinois Commercial Fishing Association), IFOR (Illinois Federation for Outdoor Resources) and are active in protecting our waters and environment.
