Austral Fisheries is one of Australia’s leading commercial fishing companies, specialising in environmental fishing practices that catch and source sustainable seafood. Austral catches and processes MSC certified Patagonian Toothfish and Mackerel Icefish, as well as MSC certified wild ocean caught Banana prawns and Tiger prawns for the world markets.
Austral Fisheries own and operate 10 refrigerated prawn trawlers operating in Australia’s Northern Prawn Fishery. In the Southern Ocean and southern Indian Ocean, Austral own and operate three vessels, the Southern Champion, and the longliners, the Austral Leader II and Isla Eden.
Austral Fisheries formerly owned and managed the Austral Leader, which played a key role in the pioneering and development of Australia’s sub-Antarctic fisheries of Macquarie and Heard & McDonald Islands. The Austral Leader was retired from fishing in April 2005.
Austral Fisheries lists Kailis Fisheries Holdings Pty Ltd and Maruha Nichiro Corporation as its affiliates; a relationship which combines local knowledge with an international network of expertise. This results in a company committed to quality, both in its products and the delivery of these products to anywhere in the world.
Seafood Trading Division
Seafood Trading is a fast growing division of Austral Fisheries that specialises in innovative sourcing and marketing of quality sustainable seafood. In November 2008 Austral Fisheries took ownership of Sontari Foods (now known as Austral Fisheries – Seafood Trading Division), a Sydney based seafood importing business. In 2011 this Sydney operation expanded to include Brisbane and Perth offices, and in 2013, a Melbourne office.
Our Seafood Trading Division provides distribution and support to all major Australian cities and provides a quality service that is backed up by exceptional products sourced from environmentally conscious and reliable suppliers.
