EXPANSION OF AQUACULTURE
LARGEST PROJECTS OF TURBOT IN THE WORLD
As regards fish-farming, the largest projects of turbot in the world are built in Mira (Portugal) and Xove (Lugo).
PRODUCER OF VANNAMEI PRAWN IN AMERICA
The growing and processing of vannamei prawn is encouraged in Nicaragua (2006), Honduras (2008), Guatemala (2008) and Ecuador (2008) by means of buying several companies which farm prawns. The group has 11.495 hectares, of which 4,517 are in Ecuador, 5,553 in Nicaragua, 1,200 in Honduras and 225 in Guatemala.
A CONSOLIDATED GROUP BASED ON VERTICAL INTEGRATION
Pescanova bases itself on vertical integration, which goes from catching the products that commercialises to their establishment in the main markets in Europe, America and Japan, going through their processing up to obtain the targeted final product. Within this vertical integration, the initial access to the resources can be obtained by catching them with its fishing fleet or farming them in its various farms.
At present the Pescanova Group comprises more than 160 companies, some of them depending directly and wholly on the Group; others are subsidiaries, companies where they have invested strategic alliances, or joint ventures. Pescanova is present in the 5 continents, in more than 20 countries, has its own fleet with more than 100 vessels, almost 50 fish-farming plants, more than 30 processing plants, processes more than 70 marine species and sells 16 trademarks of its own, employing approximately 10,000 people.
ACTIVITY OF THE COMPANY | Extractive fishing
Pescanova has long known how to lead the rest, by creating a solid international organisation devoted to the rational exploitation of marine resources. The Pescanova Group develops its activity through a complete fishing fleet, comprising more than 90 ships of differing characteristics, including many factory ships in which certain fish species and shellfish, after being caught, are instantly processed and frozen.
Pescanova is a company that is conscious of the importance of managing marine resources correctly; it has accepted international rules relating to the appropriate exploitation of species in different fishing-grounds, thus assuring their continuance.
